The Studio: Paradox Tectonic is one of Paradox’s newest additions and officially opened its doors in early 2019. The studio is led by Rod Humble, former Executive Vice President at Electronic Arts and former CEO of Linden Lab, creators of Second Life. Our aim with Paradox Tectonic is to create open, fun, beautiful games which respect the players’ intelligence that enables their creativity, freedom, emotion, and sharing. Stay tuned for more information.
The Team: Working at Paradox Tectonic means becoming part of a small, diverse and nimble team. We believe that small team of highly experienced developers working in a flat organization can collaborate to build the best games. Each person has a huge impact on the design and feel of our games. While our headquarters is located in the Bay Area, we believe developers should work from wherever they work best and support remote employees when possible.
The Location: Paradox Tectonic Studio is located in the heart of downtown Berkeley near the UC Berkeley Campus. Restaurants, bars, shops, parking, BART as well as residential areas are all within walking distance. Our name “Tectonic” is a reference to the San Andreas Fault that runs along the California coast and the many small tremors that we feel each year. We hope to shake things up (in a good way).
Our Culture
In November 2016, we gathered the entire company for a four day conference in Malta. The focus of the conference was to discuss company direction, discuss our internal goals, and also put into words the company culture we are so keen to keep as we continue to grow. Together, we decided that the following cultural pillars are what makes up the foundation of Paradox:
- DEDICATED
- PASSIONATE
- GET SHIT DONE
- OPEN-MINDED
- NERDY
