Paradox Development Studio is looking to hire a Programmer Manager to join the Technical Leadership team. Our vision is to ensure that our programmers feel motivated and empowered and get to solve interesting problems while building great games. If you want to be part of a humble and ambitious team that exists to level-up our programmers and allow them to do what they do best every day, we’d love to hear from you!

About the role

In this role you will build an environment that ensures that our developers are motivated and continuously improving while also doing interesting and challenging work towards creating great games. As a Programmer Manager you would directly manage a number of C++ developers and other engineers and work closely with them to ensure that they remain motivated to do great work while also having opportunities to grow and learn. You will also be a part of larger initiatives across the studio to help our development team grow on a studio level, as well as cross-studio initiatives together with our other internal studios.

Our company culture revolves around ownership and trust so we would like to see a strong sense of ownership in you and that you display a lot of self leadership. As a leader you also build trust inside the team and give trust to the people working with you. You like to work close to the product and are motivated to work in a more operational capacity if it can help the team achieve their goals. It’s also in our culture to embrace all kinds of nerdiness because we believe that fuels our intense care for our products, our players, and our company. So you will most likely be leading a group of developers with a variety of nerdy interests.

Responsibilities

  • Direct management of 8-12 C++ Game Programmers which consists of regular 1:1 meetings, development talks, salary talks and helping to find opportunities for them to grow and develop.
  • Mentoring and coaching developers to level-up.
  • Being part of the Programmer Recruitment process by taking part in interviews, reviewing applicants, iterating on the process and training developers to be more involved in recruitment.
  • Ensuring our programmers have the right tools to do their best work, both in terms of development tools and software and with regards to training to build a wider skill set as a developer.
  • Supporting initiatives such as regular Programmer Workshops, Assemblies and Personal Development projects to help programmers grow, learn and bond as a team.
  • Support the studio in building the right teams of people to make the best games possible, which involves coordinating programmers moving between teams and the formation of strike teams.
  • Promoting a healthy and diverse work environment which is welcoming to all while also building a strong culture and sense of meaning within our teams.

Required Qualifications

  • A strong desire to build high performing teams of programmers who have a high sense of autonomy and ownership over their work.
  • A track record of coaching and mentoring other developers and/or leading development teams to successful delivery.
  • Comfortable with English, both written and spoken.
