Senior Game Designer

As a Senior Game Designer on an unannounced title working at the development studio in Umeå, you will be an on-site project team member where you will be involved in designing gameplay features and systems under the guidance of the Game Director and Project Lead. You will have a direct and influential impact on the quality and feel of the game. Organizationally, you will report to the Studio Manager and become an internal member of the Game Design Department at Paradox Arctic Studio.

We are open to applicants with a certain minimal level of game industry experience (Senior).

Responsibilities

  • Designing and documenting gameplay features and mechanics under the direction of the Game Director with room for creative contributions
  • Expand on the design details and identify issues with the existing game design
  • Balance and tune both new and existing gameplay features and systems
  • Engaging in research on related topics to find inspiration for designing memorable gaming experiences
  • Provide guidance and support to less senior game designers on the studio
  • Defining asset needs required for the game design and communicating those effectively to the Game Director, Project Lead, Artists and Audio Department
  • Work closely with the Artists and Programmers to make sure the design is properly implemented according to the specification

Required Qualifications

  • At least 5 years of professional games industry experience as Game Designer
  • Has worked on at least one released game from start to finish
  • Ability to translate design goals into tangible mechanics and balancing values
  • Has in-depth knowledge of Gameplay Design, including Pacing, and basic knowledge of related disciplines

Additional Qualifications

  • Experience in programming or scripting is a major plus
  • Having designed games for consoles is a plus
  • Love and dedication for management games

You have an ability to work independently with assigned tasks and take responsibility for delivering game design specifications according to the project’s schedule as well as good problem solving skills. You have a proven ability to reach consensus in an interdisciplinary team of subject matter experts.
