Are you a dedicated game designer with a passion for management and strategy games? Can you nerd out in details, balancing, and problem solving? Then you might be the one we’re looking for!

Paradox Arctic is developing Deep, Appealing and Personal games within the management and strategy genres in anything from historic and contemporary to fantasy and sci-fi environments. As a Game Designer on a new and unannounced title, you will be a vital project team member where you will be involved in designing gameplay features and systems under the guidance of the Project Lead and Game Director. You will lead a small team of junior and mid-level designers and have a direct and substantial impact on the game.

We work as a team and support each other but we expect every individual to have the responsibility to take charge of tasks and see that they are delivered. We care about quality and are motivated by the love and respect from our fans and to release a title we can all be proud of.

  • Designing and documenting gameplay features and mechanics
  • Working closely with the Game Director, making sure the gameplay aligns with the vision
  • Expand on the design details and identify issues with the existing game design
  • Balance gameplay features and systems
  • Defining asset needs required for the game design and communicating those effectively to the Game Director, Project Lead, Artists and Audio Department
  • Work closely with the Artists and Programmers to make sure the design is properly implemented according to the specification

Required Qualifications

  • At least 5 years of professional games industry experience as Game Designer
  • Ability to translate design goals into tangible mechanics and balancing values
  • Ability to work independently with assigned tasks and take responsibility for delivering game design specifications according to the project’s schedule
  • Good problem solving skills
  • Ability to reach consensus in an interdisciplinary team of subject matter experts
  • Interest in management and/or strategy games

Since our games are within the management and strategy genres, it’s a big plus if you’ve worked with that before. If you have experience in programming and scripting, that will be advantageous for you in this role, and so will experience from designing economic systems for management and/or strategy-games - though it’s not required. Having designed games for XBox & PS4 is also a plus.

At Paradox Arctic Studio, we desire individuals that are capable of open and clear communication skills within their team and co-workers. As Designers, we strive to cooperate with each other by sharing and receiving constructive feedback while trying to be a positive influence on other team members and support each other.
