About the Studio

The new Paradox Barcelona studio is the latest addition to the Paradox studio family; building on our experience of building Paradox Development Studio and developing great Grand Strategy games. In the future, the studio will be the custodian and developer of the Europa Universalis brand, the game that started it all twenty years ago.

At the Paradox Barcelona studio we work in a small, gameplay focused team, where everyone is part of crafting the player experience and has an input on the design of the game. We believe that game development should be fun and strive for a relaxed, stress-free atmosphere. Being a small studio built from the ground up, we expect everyone to contribute to the development of the studio and its culture; as one of the original members, you will have a significant impact on what the studio grows up to become.

You will be developing features and systems alongside designers and artists that fundamentally shape the games we release. Our developers have a high level of ownership over their work and it’s important that you can plan and manage your work efficiently.

You will work in a small, cross-discipline, team that collaborates closely and work together to craft the best possible player experiences. As such, you should be good at cooperating with people while also being passionate about games and not a stranger to work on all aspects of the game. Your driving force should be building great games!

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain well-engineered C++ code with high levels of stability and performance.
  • Design and implement features in different aspects of the game such as gameplay systems, AI, networking, graphics, user interface, our in-house scripting language and optimization.
  • Solve interesting problems, ranging from designing and building new systems from scratch to optimizing features to be both performant but scriptable.
  • Collaborate daily with, and estimate tasks for other programmers, designers and artists.
  • Continue to level-up as a programmer by sharing knowledge with your team and an openness for learning from the rest of your team.

Qualifications

  • Excellent understanding of modern C/C+
  • 2+ years of professional experience with C++
  • Good debugging skills
  • Passion for video games
  • Comfortable communicating with English, both written and spoken.
  • Experience and interest in PDS Grand strategy game is considered an advantage

On a personal level, you have a strong sense of independence and an ability to take long-term ownership of your features. Furthermore, you have the ability to estimate your tasks and collaborate with technical and non-technical colleagues.
