Paradox Interactive is looking for a UI artist for its newest Grand Strategy studio in Barcelona, Spain. Would you like to work in a small, passionate team, where you are closely involved with both the art but also crafting the gameplay experience?

About the Studio

The new Paradox Barcelona studio is the latest addition to the Paradox studio family; building on our experience of building Paradox Development Studio and developing great Grand Strategy games. In the future, the studio will be the custodian and developer of the Europa Universalis brand, the game that started it all twenty years ago.

At the Paradox Barcelona studio we work in a small, gameplay focused team, where everyone is part of crafting the player experience and has an input on the design of the game. We believe that game development should be fun and strive for a relaxed, stress-free atmosphere. Being a small studio built from the ground up, we expect everyone to contribute to the development of the studio and its culture; as one of the original members, you will have a significant impact on what the studio grows up to become.

About the role

As a UI artist you will be responsible for creating the UI and other 2D art for all aspects of our games. Being part of a small team you will be deeply involved in the entire process of making the best experience for our players, making sure the game both looks good and supports the gameplay in a way that is both accessible and easy to understand for the players.

Responsibilities

  • Craft game art hands on by creating whatever UI elements, motion, art assets,  illustrations and supporting 2D artwork our games may require. 
  • Implement art in game using script systems and tools as needed.

Requirements

  • 2+ years experience creating user interfaces from concept, through prototype to final
  • Highly skilled creating high quality UI art and 2D illustrations from scratch with the portfolio to prove it
  • Comfortable using English in spoken and written form
  • A passion for the strategy game genre is considered an advantage
  • Strong traditional art skills is considered an advantage
  • Familiar with PDS games or other strategy games is considered an advantage

On a personal level, our ideal candidate is passionate about our games and good at solving problems and able to work independently. You are humble and take on small tasks with the same vigor as you do the big, juicy tasks. You have an ability to adapt to and follow and help develop a variety of artistic styles, as well as an ability to estimate your tasks and collaborate with technical and non-technical colleagues. You are articulate in contextualizing decisions, communicating ideas and giving feedback and you have an ability to adapt your work tempo, scaling quality towards available time.
