Do you want to make a big difference at a small studio? Paradox is on an ambitious journey to explore and expand on Management Games. To do this, we are looking for a Tech Lead in Umeå to take over the responsibility of enabling and empowering high programmer efficiency to bring the best possible experience to the players during the long live phase of one of our games.

You will collaborate with other programmers, game designers, artists and QA, finalizing and expanding on a game in a new groundbreaking genre. Your team will be small and working tightly together with each member having a big impact on the finished game. In other words, at Paradox Umeå, you will play a big part in a small studio pioneering a new management-style game.

This role comes with a lot of responsibility; you will be expected to lead your team towards a shared goal as well as being accountable for the technical delivery to get there. You will play a key part in the project leadership making sure technical solutions are well aligned with game vision and release dates.

You will have the opportunity to discuss and evolve new ideas, solve complex coding tasks and shape a new path of gaming for our fans. To help you succeed and set you up for success you will be given the support to grow, be challenged, make mistakes and spend time on personal development to become the best you can be.

  • Accountable for the technical delivery of a single game project
  • Lead, follow up and coach other coders towards a stable, performant game with a code quality that enables and empowers high programmer efficiency.
  • Drive continuous improvement of the development process and automation in an agile environment
  • Break down and estimate features and flag high risks with plans for mitigation
  • When not directly leading the team you will spend time on software architecture  and developing different aspects of the game such as gameplay systems, AI, networking, graphics, user interface, our scripting language and optimization (typically 50-60% of your time)

Required Qualifications

  • Excellent understanding of modern C/C++ (C++17).
  • Experience of leading development teams or larger technical initiatives from pre production to live product
  • A minimum of 5 years of professional experience with C++, at least 2 of them in game development
  • Very strong skills and interest in software design/architecture and the C++ language
  • Strong sense of independence and an ability to take long-term ownership of your features.
  • You are comfortable in English, both written and spoken
  • Experience with game engines e.g. Unity or Unreal is considered an advantage.

We believe it is very important that you are able to take ownership of any area of the game and estimate your own time. In your career you have decided that leadership and technology is the path for you. We think you are good at cooperating with new groups of people but you must also be able to independently design/redesign major parts of the codebase. You are passionate about developing games and can easily adapt to new methods. As a person you are positive, dedicated, responsible, and love a challenge. An interest in management games will be considered a plus.
