Senior C++ Programmer

Paradox Development Studio is now looking to hire a Senior Programmer to work in a dynamic, supportive, playful and exciting environment. For the person with the right skills and mindset we can offer a great opportunity to work with skilled colleagues, find challenges to grow and most importantly - have fun while you do it.

You will collaborate with other programmers, game designers, artists and QA, creating and expanding on one of our world-class Grand Strategy games such as Stellaris and Hearts of Iron IV. Your team will be small and autonomous where each member has a big impact on the finished game. In other words, at Paradox, you will be part of a small team building grand games from start to finish.

In your role as senior programmer you will influence and impact the outcome of the game by setting high technical standards on quality but also making sure the technical architecture is sound and enables an iterative development process that bring as much fun as possible to the gamers.

  • Technical design and implementation of new features
  • Improving and optimizing existing code
  • Collaborate with the Technical Steering Group to improve the foundation across all our gaming teams and share code in an open-source manner.
  • Guiding less experienced programmers towards creating quality software

Required Qualifications

  • You have at least 5 years of professional experience developing software in C++, at least two of those in the games industry
  • Very strong skills and interest in software design/architecture and the C++ language
  • Experience leading and mentoring other programmers
  • You are comfortable with English, both written and spoken

Good to have

  • Experience developing on Linux and/or OSX/macOS
  • Experience using CMake
  • Experience using Git

We believe it is very important that you are able to take ownership of any area of the game and estimate your own time. We think you are good at cooperating with new groups of people but you must also be able to independently design/redesign major parts of the codebase. You are passionate about developing games and can easily adapt to new methods. As a person you are positive, dedicated, responsible, and love a challenge. An interest in strategy games and history, and in particular the Grand Strategy games from Paradox, will be considered a big plus.

Path-Finder Problem

As part of your application, you should also complete our path-finding problem. We will evaluate your solution based on performance, stability and readability. This is your opportunity to demonstrate to us what you’re capable of and that you’re the person that we want to develop the tools that will be used to produce our future games. You will find the test by clicking here.
