Experienced UI Artist - Hearts of Iron
Your art will be seen for hundreds of hours by devoted fans across the globe, becoming part of the living history they create.
Role Overview
As an Experienced UI Artist on Hearts of Iron IV, you’ll craft the visual language that guides players through one of the most complex and immersive grand strategy games on the market. You’ll work closely with the content designers, UX designers, art director, and programmers to design, implement, and polish user interface elements that are both functional and evocative of the game’s WWII setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Visual Design & Implementation
Create high-quality UI elements, icons, event illustrations, and other 2D assets.
Develop and maintain the game’s visual identity for menus, HUDs, and in-game overlays.
Implement and optimize UI assets in the game engine for performance and clarity.
- Collaboration & Iteration
Work closely with content designers to bring the features and country packs to life.
Partner with UX designers to ensure usability and player-friendly navigation.
Work with programmers to integrate UI features while maintaining design intent.
Work with outsourcing partners to help deliver consistent quality on time.
Solicit peer reviews and feedback.
- Creative Problem-Solving
Adapt designs to support new gameplay features and country expansions.
Maintain consistency across the base game and multiple DLC’s.
Requirements
Strong portfolio demonstrating hand-painted digital art skills and a keen eye for typography, composition, and color.
Working experience designing UI from concept to final implementation.
Understanding of UX principles and ability to collaborate with UX specialists.
Moderate scripting skills for UI integration.
Comfortable using English in spoken and written form.
Bonus Skills
Familiarity with After Effects and 3D software.
Passion for Paradox’s grand strategy titles or modding and interest in historical themes.
Skills in CSS, Actionscript, Javascript and HTML.
